Burger HouseHistoryBeloved Neighborhood HangoutThe Burger House was established in 1951 by Jack Koustobardis in Dallas, Texas. It started out as a very small operation, with only one location and three employees. This typical, small neighborhood hangout continues to be a favorite with area residents. Jack operated the Burger House until 1982 when Angelo S. Chantilis and Steve G. Canellos purchased it from him. Jack continued to work at the Burger House until he retired in 1995. In keeping with the family tradition of the Burger House, Chantilis and Canellos’ sons, Angelo Chantilis, Jr. (Sonny) and Christopher Canellos, have also joined the venture. Since Chantilis and Canellos took over in 1982, the operation expanded–both in the size of its original location, and now includes five other locations that are enjoying a growing, regular clientele. Award-winning Food from a National IconOver its nearly sixty years, Burger House has become a famous local institution and an iconic national treasure. It has won many local and state awards for its burgers and fries. Highland Park High School even designated the original Burger House at Hillcrest as their official “hang-out.” And in 2008, Burger House was named the Top Hamburger Place in Texas in the now famous bestselling book, Hamburger America by George Motz. The original line-up of award-winning burgers, fries and handmade malts and shakes still anchors the reasonably priced menu, which has expanded over the years to include chicken sandwiches and a children’s menu. One of the secrets to Burger House’s success is the special seasoning salt developed by Koustobardis, which is now packaged and sold in all Burger House locations, over the internet at www.burgerhouse.com, and through other outlets. The other secret is our family-friendly atmosphere, attentive service, and consistently great food at reasonable prices that keeps our customers coming back generation after generation. |
